A poem by Leise Fleet - Educational Support Worker Print

Where is the sense in depriving the Grafters?

Of dignity, pride and a decent life after …

A hard day at work and a job that’s well done.

“Pay him his due, let him go have some fun!”

Let him put food and drink on his table.

Let him feel safe in a job that is stable.

Give him the chance to buy clothes for his babies.

Don’t scare him with threats, ifs, buts and maybe’s.

A ‘civilised’ nation is just what they say.

But where’s the days work for a decent days pay?

We let history repeat, at too great a cost!

We must learn from our past or all will be lost.

Stand up for each other, each man a brother,

Each woman a sister, wife or a mother.

It’s no moral or code or statement that guides us,

But kindness, love and respect that will bind us.
