Joint Statement between Derby College and Midlands unionlearn Print

7 July 2010

In a meeting involving David Croll, Steve Logan, Derek Sharp of Derby College and Mary Alys and Peter Try of unionlearn it has been agreed that trade union-related programmes will continue to be provided through Derby College Trade Union Education Centre. Accordingly a programme of TUC Education courses for union representatives will now be advertised for the academic year 2010/2011.

Given the forthcoming closure of the college’s Prince Charles Avenue Campus, Mackworth a suitable alternative venue has yet to be identified.

Although the high quality of training and education provided by Derby College Trade Union Education Centre (DTUEC) is not in doubt it is acknowledged that the financial viability of the Centre is of great importance. Therefore, beginning in September 2010, a joint programme will commence with the intention of:

1.Identifying ways to satisfactorily identify and record the added value arising from the additional workplace learning brought into the college through the mutual work of DTUEC staff, unionlearn and trade unions.

2.Identifying other efficiencies that will help to increase the contribution the work of the trade union education team is able to make to college income.
