Derby Trade Union Education Centre - Response to our Supporters

Dear Supporter,

The staff at Derby Trade Union Education Centre would like to thank each and everyone who supported the campaign to keep the Centre open.  Let us make no bones about it; without your support the Centre would have closed and members of staff would have faced an uncertain future, if not redundancy.

It would be fair to say that the level of support, in excess of a thousand emails and letters to the Principal, David Croll, has been nothing short of outstanding.  This has left all members of staff feeling both overwhelmed and humbled, not only by the high level of support, but by the high esteem in which the Centre is held by the movement.

Support has come from learners, past and present, trade union branches, regional and national offices as well as MP’s and MEP’s.  To those who took the time to contact the Principal, David Croll, we are extremely indebted.

Having survived the ordeal of facing closure we remain committed, as we always have been, to delivering high quality courses to the trade union movement as well as offering a valuable resource for trade unionists within Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Northamptonshire.  We will continue to work with affiliates, both locally and nationally, to deliver high quality courses for their representatives.

At present our future hangs in the balance as there will be a review of our performance in the next few months as well as the comprehensive spending review the coalition Government will be carrying out in the autumn – which will affect all funding in further education.  In order to remain viable we need to count on your support by encouraging as many representatives as possible to sign up for courses with us. We can work with you to design and deliver courses to meet your needs.
