Partnership Agreement signed with CWU Print

Derby College has joined forces with the Communications Workers Union and the United Road Transport Union in two separate agreements to provide  essential skills training for their members.

More than 2,000 Derbyshire CWU members and non members will benefit from a wide range of job-specific NVQ qualifications as well as literacy, numeracy and IT short courses delivered either at work or at College over the coming year.

A two-year agreement with the URTU will support workers across the East Midlands on a similar range of courses.

This has so far been launched at the DHL and Homebase distribution centre in Wellingborough where a new Learning Centre has been provided for employees’ use.  Other activity will be held using the Union’s mobile learning centre and at Derby College.

Simon Ferrar, Operations Manager for Derby College Trade Union Education Centre, explained: “Both agreements with these Unions provide access to flexible and, at times, rapid response learning facilities to meet the needs of unions, employers and workers during these difficult economic times.

“This support will enable the development of workers’ skills and confidence to help them in their existing jobs or if they are at risk of redundancy.

“It will also promote trade union involvement in the skills agenda and show employers the benefits of working in partnership to support workplace learning.”
